Suriname’s Ex-President Santokhi Dies, Left Office Last Year

Former Suriname President Chandrikapersad “Chan” Santokhi died unexpectedly on Monday, the government announced, after leading the small but oil-rich South American nation until last year.

The administration of current President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons described Santokhi’s passing as “sudden,” offering condolences to his relatives, friends and political colleagues.
