ECB Study Backs Case for Centralized Markets Watchdog in Europe

Europe would benefit from direct supervision of some of its biggest market players, a European Central Bank working paper argued.

Five or six of 14 central counterparties and 15 of 34 central securities depository groups would qualify for such treatment, according to the analysis, which also backs an enhanced role for the European Securities & Markets Authority for the 10 to 15 largest asset managers and all crypto-asset service providers.
