María Corina Machado’s party headquarters reopened on Saturday in Caracas after being shuttered in the aftermath of the contested 2024 presidential election that drove the Venezuelan opposition leader into hiding.

The reopening underscores a tentative political shift after the capture of Nicolás Maduro earlier this year, as interim authorities seek to ease tensions with Washington. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has released political prisoners, approved an amnesty law and pledged to shut the notorious Helicoide detention center, where many of Machado’s allies were held and allegedly tortured.
