Japan’s Katayama Flags Possible Intervention as Yen Nears 160
Japan’s finance minister flagged the possibility of taking “bold actions” to counter currency moves, a reference to intervention, as the yen traded near a threshold where authorities entered the market on several occasions in 2024.
“It really comes down to responding firmly, including taking bold steps,” Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said Friday when asked about the yen’s weakness, which has come as tensions in the Middle East remain high.
