Barrick Slows Pakistan Copper Project Amid Rising Conflicts
Barrick Mining Corp. said it’s slowing work on its Reko Diq copper-and-gold project in Pakistan due to escalating security issues in the country and Middle East.
The decision came seven weeks after Barrick said it was reviewing all aspects of the project due to a rise in security incidents in the mineral-rich Balochistan province, where Reko Diq is located. Recent escalation in security issues in Pakistan and the Middle East prompted the company to extend its review by 12 months from July to continue assessing potential impacts and delivery strategy for the project, Barrick said.
