Keir Starmer said the UK would provide “appropriate” support to ease household energy bills later in the year, as the prime minister sought to contain the domestic fallout from the US-Israeli war with Iran.

Starmer told the House of Commons on Wednesday that the government would act after a cap on what utilities can charge expires at the end of June. That 3-month cap, he said, would remain “whatever happens in the conflict,” which has driven up energy prices and undercut the Labour Party’s hopes of an economic rebound.
