Buyout firms are sitting on a massive stable of unsold companies. They’re holding them longer and looking for creative ways to monetize them, as the old bootstrap-and-flip nature of the business evolves.

Bank of America Corp. is seeking to take advantage of those trends by starting a new team within its investment bank to help private equity firms exit their investments — while also boosting the firm’s share of that intensely competitive market.
