Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said the UK government is contingency planning for “every eventuality” over the economic impact of the Iran crisis, and reaffirmed that any potential help for Britons would be targeted at the neediest.

Planning is taking place “so that we can keep costs down for everyone and provide support for those who need it most,” Reeves told Members of Parliament on Tuesday, without specifying what that support would entail. She said the government would act “within our iron-clad fiscal rules to keep inflation and interest rates as low as possible.”
