The UK is battling an outbreak of meningitis cases among young people, with health authorities warning of a rapidly evolving situation that has already left two people dead.

The outbreak began in Kent in southeast England, with the likely epicenter a nightclub called Club Chemistry in the city of Canterbury. Doctors were being advised to prescribe antibiotics to students at the University of Kent and to anyone who visited the nightclub during three crucial days at the start of the month.
