Thai PM Anutin Set to Extend Rule in Vote After Election Win
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is poised to win lawmaker approval for a new term less than six weeks after elections, potentially bringing stability to the country’s often volatile political landscape and allowing him to manage the fallout from the war in the Middle East.
Anutin was formally nominated for the premiership at a meeting of the newly-elected members of the House of Representatives in Bangkok early on Thursday. The opposition People’s Party picked its leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut to symbolically compete to be premier.
