AI Boom Drives US to Build Enough Battery Systems for Domestic Demand
The US now has the production capacity to supply 100% of its energy-storage systems domestically, a key milestone in the push to boost American battery manufacturing and decrease the nation’s reliance on Chinese imports.
US manufacturing capacity for fully-assembled battery systems has jumped from 7 gigawatt hours in 2023 to about 70 today, according to a new report from the US Energy Storage Coalition. The group also projected a similar surge in battery-cell manufacturing, which is expected to grow fivefold and surpass domestic demand by the end of 2026.
