Slovakia’s government repealed a law abolishing the Whistleblower Protection Office after it said the European Union’s executive arm threatened to withhold funds tied to anti-corruption standards.

In its justification for the proposed U-turn, the government pointed to the European Commission’s decision to suspend its assessment of applications for payments under the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Plan after the previous law’s approval.
