Sarkozy Starts Court Fight Over Jailing That Made French History

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has started his court fight against a return to prison for his alleged role in an electoral funding scandal linked to late Libyan leader Moammar Qaddafi’s regime.

Sarkozy — who made history after serving three weeks of his five-year jail sentence last year — has said said he hopes to prove his “innocence” at the appeals trial, which got underway Monday afternoon.
