Mota-Engil Says Its CEO Faces Defamation Suit by Muddy Waters

Mota‑Engil SGPS SA said on Saturday that short‑seller Muddy Waters has filed a civil defamation lawsuit in the US against the company and its chief executive officer.

The complaint seeks to hold the Portuguese construction group and CEO Carlos Mota Santos liable for defamation, following a 2024 interview with Expresso in which Mota Santos described Muddy Waters’ actions regarding Mota-Engil as market manipulation, the company said in a regulatory filing.
