A soccer team backed by retired football star Peyton Manning has tapped the private placement market in one of the first deals of its kind from a women’s sports franchise.

The $40 million raised by Denver Summit FC in a private bond sale will help to finance the construction of a practice facility for the team, according to a person with knowledge of the transaction. Chicago-based Mesirow Financial Inc. arranged the deal for the National Women’s Soccer League’s 16th franchise.
