Italy and Malta Closely Monitoring Adrift Russian LNG Tanker

Italy is closely monitoring an unmanned Russian-flagged liquefied natural gas tanker that has run adrift off Malta, Premier Giorgia Meloni’s office said in a statement Friday.

Maltese authorities have set up a 5-nautical-mile security perimeter and the two nations will monitor the situation jointly, Meloni’s office said. The ship carries “sizable” quantities of LNG and other fuels, it added.
