Cuba to Free 51 Prisoners, President to Speak Amid US Tension

Cuba vowed to free dozens of prisoners as its president prepared to speak to the press for second time since Donald Trump cut off vital fuel supplies to the communist-run island after capturing its principal ally.

Some 51 prisoners will be released in coming days, Cuba’s foreign ministry said Thursday in a statement, citing “the spirit of goodwill and close, fluid relations” between Havana and the Vatican.
