Senegal Urges Payments to Keep Dakar Olympics Upgrade on Track

Senegal’s prime minister urged the swift settlement of unpaid contractor invoices so work can resume on a flagship waterfront redevelopment in the capital as the city prepares to host Africa’s first Olympic event.

Payments must be cleared urgently so that the upgrade to a key stretch of Dakar’s coastline is delivered on schedule, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko said in cabinet minutes released by the government on Wednesday. The West African nation will host the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Dakar from Oct. 31.
