Polish President Vetoes Plan to Tap Defense Loans From EU

Polish President Karol Nawrocki said he won’t sign a legislation designed to give his country a quick access to €43.7 billion ($50.3 billion) from the European Union’s loans-for-weapons program in a blow to pro-EU government.

The decision could leave some defense projects without financing and cause delays in military spending — a setback to what Prime Minister Donald Tusk called an urgent task to rearm NATO’s biggest eastern member against potential threats from Russia.
