Heat Wave Shatters March Temperature Records in Cape Town
Cape Town and other areas of South Africa’s Western Cape Province saw record temperatures for March as a heat wave sears a region that’s vulnerable to both drought and wildfires.
Temperatures at Kirstenbosch, a botanical garden in the city, climbed to 42.1C (108F) on Wednesday, the highest since records began 66 years ago, according to the South African Weather Service. Further north at Alexander Bay, near the mouth of the Orange River, 44.8C was recorded.
