The Persian Gulf’s shipping map is being redrawn as the war on Iran brings traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz to a near standstill.

Ports in Oman and on the United Arab Emirates’ east coast — both outside the narrow waterway — are being used as emergency gateways for goods bound for the region, taking in some container and bulk vessels that can no longer enter the Gulf. The cargo is then transported by truck to its final destination, mainly Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
