Gene-Tweaked Banana Startup Tropic Secures $105 Million to Boost Output

Tropic Biosciences UK Ltd., a British gene-editing startup, has raised $105 million in new financing to expand production of bananas that don’t brown.

Crop protection and seed company Corteva Inc. led the Series C round along with Forbion Capital Partners, which invested through its Bioeconomy Fund, the startup said in a statement on Thursday. Singapore’s Temasek, venture firm IQ Capital and Amsterdam’s ABN Amro Bank NV also joined the round with several other investors.
