The war in Iran will shift more travel demand out of the Middle East and into Europe as passengers remain wary about getting stuck by Gulf airlines hamstrung by airspace restrictions in their region, the head of Hungarian discount carrier Wizz Air Holdings Plc said.

Travelers will prefer to travel within Europe given that transferring to Asia via the Middle East will be more of a challenge, Jozsef Varadi said on Wednesday in an interview. As a result, he expects to see “significant” volumes of passengers closer to home.
