Massachusetts Has Few Laws to Show for Democratic Supermajority
Massachusetts passed among the fewest laws of any state during the first year of President Donald Trump’s current term, despite having one of the most dominant Democratic majorities in the US.
Since the start of last year, the legislature has approved about 130 bills. But the vast majority were focused on addressing issues affecting individual towns or procedural measures setting election dates, raising awareness about diseases or commemorating certain groups. Stripping out those bills and routine budget appropriations, just seven major laws have been enacted.
