Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni plans to fast-track a new law decree to tackle the spike in energy prices resulting from the war in the Middle East, Italian media including La Stampa report.

Meloni is expected to discuss the initiative at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the newspaper reported, without saying where it got the information. It’s unclear whether the decree will entail a windfall tax for energy companies, a potential scenario Meloni floated in a recent radio interview.
