Poland’s main opposition party has picked conservative politician Przemyslaw Czarnek as its candidate for prime minister ahead of next year’s election, as it tries to reverse its flagging support in polls.

The Law & Justice party, which ruled Poland for eight years before losing the 2023 ballot to a pro-European coalition, is pinning its hopes for revival on Czarnek, a 48-year-old former education minister. Backing for the party has fallen to just 22%, according to the latest poll by Opinia24.
