Guinea’s military government has dissolved 40 political parties, including the main opposition groups, adding to the number of parties banned since the country’s 2021 coup.

The latest list comprises opposition parties led by ex-prime ministers Cellou Dalein Diallo and Sidya Touré, both of whom have been in exile for over three years. Former President Alpha Condé’s Rassemblement du Peuple de Guinea Arc-en-ciel and the PDG-RDA that ruled from 1958 to 1984 have also lost official status.
