German Media Tycoon Döpfner Grows Empire With UK’s Telegraph

Mathias Döpfner, the billionaire chief executive officer of Germany’s Axel Springer SE, has struck a deal to acquire the Telegraph, pushing into the UK market by buying one of the country’s oldest newspapers.

The £575 million ($766 million) cash deal would end about three years of uncertainty and political squabbling over the Tory-aligned newspaper that once employed Winston Churchill and Boris Johnson as contributors. It also unites two of Europe’s most influential conservative media brands.
