Carney Hires BlackRock’s Purves to Help Run Trade Department

Photographer: Graham Hughes/BloombergCanadian Prime Minister Mark Carney appointed BlackRock Inc. economist Glenn Purves as deputy minister of international trade, a job that will give him responsibility for helping the country boost its exports to non-US markets.
Purves has been global head of macro research for the BlackRock Investment Institute in New York since January 2025. He’d previously worked in Canada’s government for about 12 years, most recently as an assistant deputy minister with the Department of Finance. He also had a stint at the International Monetary Fund.
