Novo’s Latest Ozempic Ad Misleads Viewers, FDA Says
Less than a month after the US Food and Drug Administration said a TV advertisement for Novo Nordisk A/S’ Wegovy weight-loss pill included “false or misleading” claims, the company was hit with a notice for its original blockbuster Ozempic.
The ad features actor Justin Long and comedian John Hodgman as the personifications of Ozempic and “other GLP-1s for type 2 diabetes,” riffing off of Apple Inc.’s popular 2006 “Get a Mac” push, where the duo played the Mac computer and a PC. The FDA said the superiority implication of Long’s “Ozempic” versus Hodgman’s portrayal of “other GLP-1s” lacked supporting data.
