Brazil’s Economy Sputters Before Start of Rate-Cut Campaign

Brazil’s economy sputtered at the end of 2025, dragged down by hefty borrowing costs that undercut growth across sectors and made way for monetary easing.

Official data released Tuesday showed gross domestic product expanded 0.1% in the October-December period from a revised 0.0% third-quarter print, below the 0.2% median estimate from analysts in a Bloomberg survey. From a year prior, the economy grew 1.8%.
