Tusk Says EU Loans Won’t Impact Polish Defense Deals With US

The European Union’s defense loan program won’t affect Polish purchases of US weapons or cooperation between Warsaw and Washington, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Friday.

Poland is the largest beneficiary of the EU’s funding, known as SAFE, with nearly €44 billion ($52 billion) in earmarked funding. But its nationalist President Karol Nawrocki, who seeks closer ties with the US and is in opposition to the pro-EU Tusk, may veto legislation enabling the country to more easily tap the loans.
