Tech Stocks Push S&P 500 Higher as Traders Await Nvidia Earnings

US stocks gained on Wednesday as Nvidia Corp., the top-weighted S&P 500 Index stock, climbed ahead of the chipmaker’s earnings report after the market close.

The S&P 500 Index closed 0.8% higher. Five of the gauge’s 11 sectors in the green, led by shares of technology and financial companies. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index added 1.41%, with Axon Enterprise Inc. surging 18% and Thomson Reuters Corp. rising 10%, for the benchmark’s biggest gains. The VIX Index fell to 17.93.
