Will Duterte Face Murder Trial Over His ‘War on Drugs’?

It’s been eight years since the International Criminal Court began investigating former Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte and the “war on drugs” in which thousands of people were killed on his watch.

In late February, the court began hearings that will determine whether Duterte will face trial on charges of murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors say the former leader played a pivotal role in the extra-judicial killings of alleged drug dealers. His legal defense team has described the charges as unfounded and politically motivated.
