Brazil Activity Slows Less Than Expected, Complicating Rate Cuts

Brazil’s economic activity cooled less than expected at the end of 2025, complicating the outlook for monetary easing in Latin America’s largest economy.

The central bank’s economic activity index, a proxy for gross domestic product, printed at -0.18% in December, compared with the -0.40% median estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. From a year before, the index advanced 3.05%.
