Mistral CEO Says AI Dominance Hinges on Openness, Not Geography

The fight for artificial intelligence supremacy is between open versus closed systems rather than where those systems are built, according to Mistral AI’s chief executive officer.

Europe and China are largely championing open-source models, a term for AI systems whose core components are publicly available and modifiable, with labs both competing and collaborating, Mistral co-founder Arthur Mensch said in an interview on Bloomberg TV on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit in India on Wednesday.
