Starmer’s New Homes Goal Is Unravelling as Housebuilding Slumps
Housebuilding in England is on track to fall to its lowest level in more than a decade, pushing Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s pledge to deliver 1.5 million homes further out of reach.
During Labour’s first 15 months in office, just 175,290 homes were completed in England, according to departmental data released Tuesday by the Office for National Statistics. That falls well short of the 300,000 homes a year needed to meet the government’s target, and it marks a 14% decline from the previous five quarters.
