Industry TV Recap: Shades of Epstein

The latest story line is a lot like one playing out in news headlines.

“You’re tragically naeive as to how the financial system works. Part of their job is to find ‘suckers’ like you to sit on boards.”

These aren’t the words of any character in the sixth episode of this season’s Industry; they’re taken from a (misspelled) message Nat Rothschild sent to disgraced British politician Peter Mandelson in the latest cache of Jeffrey Epstein emails. Mandelson had until recently enjoyed a lucrative career cosplaying as a financier. A stint at Lazard here, a board directorship there, and to cap it all off the deputy chairmanship of Bank of London—the less said of that one the better. But in the end, he turned out to be just another sucker drawn in by Epstein and his associates to the seedy world where high finance meets low morals.
