German Defense Chief Isn’t Ready to Drop French Jet Alliance Yet
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius insisted that a troubled plan to develop a new fighter jet in partnership with France is “not dead yet” as he set out plans to expand the military and make its supply chains more resilient.
“Eventually we have to decide what is going to happen with FCAS,” Pistorius said in a Bloomberg Television interview at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday. “Even if FCAS came to end, that would not be the end of defense industrial cooperation in Europe. It would not be the end of the world or the end of the Franco-German relationship and friendship.”
