Jim Ratcliffe apologized for offending “some people” with his choice of language after the billionaire co-owner of the Manchester United football club said that the UK has been “colonized” by immigrants.

The businessman’s statementBloomberg Terminal came after Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the comments as “offensive and wrong,” adding they played into the hands of those who want to divide Britain. The Manchester United Muslim Supporters Club separately accused Ratcliffe in a statement of perpetuating narratives favored by the far-right that “frame migrants as invaders.” About 70% of the team’s squad are immigrants.
