Australia Charges Two More Chinese With Foreign Interference
Australian authorities charged a further two Chinese citizens with allegedly collecting information about a Buddhist association on behalf of the government in Beijing, in a case that raises the risk of renewed tensions between the countries.
A 25-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were arrested and charged on Wednesday with one count of “reckless foreign interference,” according to a statement from the Australian Federal Police. The arrests come after an almost yearlong investigation that had already led to the arrest of one other Chinese citizen in August last year.
