Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said she will communicate with financial markets on Monday if needed, as she tried to provide early reassurance and a warning for market players following a historic election win for Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

During TV appearances, as the Sunday election results came in, Katayama reiterated that she was keeping in close contact with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. She said she shares with Bessent the responsibility of maintaining stability in the dollar-yen movement.
