After watching teams leave the region and enduring constant criticism over its urban decay, the tech-centric San Francisco Bay Area is proving that it’s once again a destination for big-time sports events, highlighted by hosting the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Getting a Super Bowl has become increasingly competitive with more potential bidders, such as Las Vegas, entering the fray. To improve its chances and keep it in the rotation for hosting the big game, the Bay Area has been investing in its infrastructure. That includes $200 million in recent upgrades to Levi’s Stadium – home to Sunday’s matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots — such as giant 4K video boards and improved luxury suites.
