A tightly secured funeral was held for the slain son of ousted Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi on Friday, an event that highlighted the gaping political divisions in the major gas and oil exporter.

Saif al-Islam Qaddafi was buried in a cemetery in Bani Walid, which lies south of the capital, Tripoli, and is a stronghold of the Warfalla tribe — one of his family’s main allies. Hundreds of loyalist tribesmen attended, but officials from the rival eastern and western governments stayed away.
