Estonia Seizes Russia-Bound Vessel on Suspicion of Smuggling

Estonian forces seized a cargo ship bound for Russia and conducted a search of the vessel over suspicions of smuggling activity, the Baltic nation said.

The ship was anchored for fueling near the Estonian island of Naissaar off the coast north of Tallinn when it was boarded late Tuesday, the country’s Tax and Customs Board said. The ship, the Bahamas-flagged Baltic Spirit, is not under European Union sanctions nor part Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, the authority said.
