Singapore’s government is supportive of moves to formally enshrine its Leader of the Opposition role, The Straits Times reported Tuesday.

Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing said the government in principle supports taking further steps to institutionalize the position, in a written parliamentary reply. As a relatively new institution, the position’s roles, responsibilities and operating arrangements are still evolving through parliamentary practice and the conduct of officeholders, Chan added.
