Le Pen’s 2027 Election Ban Should Stand, Prosecutor Tells Court

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen should stay banned from the 2027 presidential race, according to a prosecutor who also sought a confirmation of her conviction for embezzling European Union funds.

Advocate general Stéphane Madoz-Blanchet said that Le Pen’s conviction should remain in place and recommended keeping the five-year election ban she got last year. If the judges follow that suggestion when they rule in the coming months that would make Le Pen ineligible to run in 2027.
