Boeing Co. and General Electric Co. uncovered a potential durability issue with a seal on the engine that powers the US planemaker’s 777X aircraft, and are studying the next steps, people familiar with the matter said.

The issue, uncovered during a recent inspection, may require the seal to be redesigned and retrofitted during future maintenance overhauls, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing confidential matters.
