The Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt is reopening for the limited passage of people in both directions, as part of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan to end the war between Israel and Hamas and rebuild the territory.

Entry and exit for a limited number of people per day is expected to start on Monday, following an initial pilot phase that began on Sunday, Israel’s office for the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories said. The crossing has been closed almost entirely since May 2024, when Israeli forces entered the area.
