Ghana’s former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia won the opposition party’s nomination to become its presidential candidate in the general elections slated for December 2028.

Bawumia secured 56.5% of the votes to beat four other aspirants, the nation’s electoral commission said in the capital, Accra, on Saturday. This will be his second attempt at Ghana’s top job on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party after he lost his first venture in 2024.
